Reactions to the death of Osama bin Laden

The news reporting of the death of Osama bin Laden has described the relief and euphoria of many in different parts of the world.  Given the indiscriminate death and destruction that has been caused by his direct influence on others, these reactions are somewhat understandable. But we should also take time out to reflect on the essence of what has happened and our considered reactions to it. Is an important human value lacking in the tide of popular opinion and media comment? Whilst the relief and euphoria at the death of Osama bin Laden is somewhat understandable, as uncomfortable as it may be to contemplate it now, our humanity is diminished if we fail to accord Mr Bin Laden the human dignity in death he failed to accord to others.
