Fairtrade Wales Flag – comes to Visit !

Did you know that Wales is the first Fairtrade Nation ?

To celebrate this fact on 12th February we welcomed the Fairtrade Flag to the University. This might sound strange, but the Fairtrade Wales Flag is doing a tour around Wales for six months being passed from one Fairtrade Group to another. This is to celebrate the status of Wales as a Fairtrade Nation.

Jane Davidson, Welsh Assembly Government Minister for Environment, Sustainability and Housing has described the acheivement of Fairtrade status as

“Wales is showing how a small country can take steps to bring about a big change – and in the case of Fair Trade making a huge impact on the lives of third world producers and their families.”

The flag was posted outside B Block in the University by Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor Clive Mulholland. The flag arrived at the Chaplaincy and the Chaplain Vaughan Rees was present at the lifting of the flag.
